About Shrink Tubing J-421 - MIL-I-23053/5

Jaguar Industries' J-421 heat shrink tubing is an electrical grade flexible polyolefin product engineered to meet demanding MIL-I-23053/5 Class 1 Overexpanded specifications for military, aerospace, and high-reliability applications requiring extreme shrink ratios to accommodate significant variations in substrate sizes. Rated for continuous operation from -55°C to 135°C with capability to withstand elevated temperatures for short periods, making it ideal for applications where standard 2:1 or 3:1 shrink ratios are insufficient. The revolutionary 4:1 shrink ratio is the highest available in the Jaguar product line, enabling coverage of substrates with dramatic size variations while maintaining excellent fit and performance. The minimum shrink temperature of 121°C provides controlled installation with excellent conformability to irregular shapes and varying diameters. Available in five sizes ranging from 1 inch to 4 inches, specifically designed for larger cable assemblies, harness bundling, and applications requiring extreme shrinkage capability. Standard black color provides UV resistance and professional appearance for visible installations. Wall thickness of .045 inches nominal recovered across all sizes ensures consistent mechanical protection and electrical insulation regardless of the degree of shrinkage. Packaged in convenient 4-foot lengths for easy handling and installation, with custom cut pieces available for specific applications requiring precise lengths. Outstanding physical properties include 2400 PSI tensile strength, exceptional 400% ultimate elongation providing superior flexibility and conformability during shrinking, +5,-50% longitudinal change accommodating the extreme shrink ratio, and 1.7X10³ PSI secant modulus. Specific gravity of 1.3 for black. Superior thermal performance demonstrated through heat aging showing 175% elongation retention after 336 hours at 175°C, heat shock resistance with no dripping or cracking after 4 hours at 250°C passing mandrel wrap test, and low temperature flexibility verified with no cracking after 4 hours at -55°C. Self-extinguishing flammability rating ensures fire safety in critical applications. Excellent electrical insulation properties with 900 V/mil dielectric strength and 10¹⁵ ohm-cm volume resistivity make J-421 ideal for high-voltage applications requiring extreme shrinkage. Chemical resistance includes non-corrosive performance, good solvent resistance maintaining 1000 PSI tensile strength and 400 V/mil dielectric strength after exposure, minimal water absorption of only 0.2%, and non-nutrient properties for fungus resistance in humid environments. Perfect for shrink fit covering of substrates with significant size variations, cable harness bundling with mixed wire gauges, breakout applications requiring transition from large to small diameters, repair and rework applications where existing insulation has varying thicknesses, wire harness assemblies with irregular profiles, aerospace cable installations with dimensional tolerances, military electronics requiring adaptable covering, automotive wiring harnesses with complex geometries, industrial control systems with mixed cable sizes, telecommunications equipment with varying conductor diameters, marine applications with size-variable substrates, and any application requiring flexible heat shrink tubing with extreme 4:1 shrink ratio capability, excellent temperature resistance, and MIL-SPEC reliability. The combination of polyolefin material, revolutionary 4:1 shrink ratio, Class 1 Overexpanded specification, flexible construction, consistent wall thickness, and comprehensive electrical and mechanical properties makes J-421 the ideal choice for the most demanding applications requiring maximum shrinkage capability to accommodate significant substrate size variations while maintaining long-term reliability and performance in harsh environments where standard shrink ratios would be insufficient.
